The frequency that works is the one that matches how quickly the place goes backwards, which depends on far more than floor area.
What actually drives it
- How many people live there, and how many of them are under ten
- Pets, particularly anything that sheds onto carpet
- Whether anyone works from home during the week
- Hard floors against carpet — hard floors show dust faster but recover faster too
- Whether the kitchen gets used properly or mostly reheats things
A two-person household with no pets and a lightly used kitchen usually holds up fine on a fortnightly visit. Add a dog and two kids and the same house needs weekly, not because it is dirtier by nature but because the mess arrives faster than a fortnight.
The first visit is not the pattern
A first clean on a home that has not had one in a while takes longer than the visits that follow. It is catching up on things a regular clean maintains rather than tackles. Once the house is at a baseline, the recurring visit holds the line.
